Our Achievements

Led by a team of high-level talents, BellaGen Institute of Gene Editing has established the source technology innovation platform of gene editing by making full use of the research strengths of its core team. The Institute has been focusing on the development and improvement of key and common technologies in gene editing and the development of new crop varieties by combining the strengths and resources of various parties. Major breakthroughs have been achieved in several domains, and steady progress has been made toward becoming an internationally leading platform for technological innovation in plant gene editing. All of this reaffirms our commitment to promoting the rapid industrial application and implementation of plant gene editing technology in the seed industry and driving the development of the seed industry in Shandong and even the country.


Building Patent Matrix

BellaGen has broken the monopoly of core technology for foreign gene editing and is the first company in China to succeed in independently developing the underlying patented technology for gene editing. We have independently developed the “gene scissors” family represented by CRISPR Cas SF01 and CRISPR Cas SF02, and achieved a series of breakthroughs in both common and key technology. Up to now, we have applied for more than 160 patents, including 29 PCT patent applications, and have been granted more than 40 patents (Note: patent data as of December 2022).






Four Major R&D Pipelines

Taking safeguarding national food security, practicing the concept of sustainable development, empowering rural revitalization and creating a healthy life as our starting point, BellaGen has systematically deployed four R&D pillars of high yield and quality, green and efficient, processing-specific and nutritional health, forming a matrix of commercializable heavyweight products. For example, the high-yielding rice series with a yield increase of up to 15%, the densely planted dwarf corn series that offers stem height adjustments within a range of 5% to 50%, and the world's first fragrant corn series; the efficient green series of herbicide-resistant rice and soybeans that can withstand up to five times the normal herbicide content; the corn, soybeans and potatoes series for processing into bulk raw materials such as starch, oil, and protein with precise quality improvement; nutritional health series such as high-oleic acid soybeans with over 80% oleic acid content and high VC lettuce with VC content higher than kiwis, making “precision breeding and precision nutrition” a reality.
